Design Engineer – (New Product Development)

About the Role: As a Design Engineer, you’ll be a key contributor to our Client's New Product Development (NPD) team—driving innovation in modular retail fixtures. You'll lead the design of new components and systems within the Client's modular platform, creating customer-specific solutions that are both cost-effective and manufacturing-ready. Working cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and production, you’ll turn ideas into prototypes, then into high-quality, scalable products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of new fixture systems and custom applications
- Produce detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for customer review and production
- Engineer for manufacturability using wood, metal, plastics, and other materials
- Collaborate with production to ensure seamless design-to-build transition
- Generate and maintain accurate BOMs and design documentation
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and apply value engineering practices
- Support prototype builds and hands-on testing
- Mentor junior engineers and help establish design best practices
- Assist in refining and standardizing design processes and specifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Product Development, or related field
- 5+ years in a wood/metal manufacturing environment—store fixture experience preferred
- Strong multi-material knowledge (wood, metal, plastic, glass, etc.)
- Expertise in cabinet construction, joinery, hardware, sheet metal, and extrusion
- Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, or similar
- Solid ERP system knowledge
- Experience managing multiple design projects simultaneously
- Strong ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally
