Location: New Orleans, LA

Contract - 6mth to Hire
Hybrid

Position Overview: The Design Specialist is responsible for utilizing SolidWorks software to create and modify detailed design models and drawings for the MCM USV project. The specialist collaborates with naval architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop 3D models and 2D drawings that accurately represent the ship’s structure, equipment, and systems. They ensure that the designs meet industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements while optimizing for efficiency, functionality, and ease of manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize SolidWorks to create and modify detailed design models and drawings for the MCM USV project.
  • Collaborate with naval architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Optimize designs for efficiency, functionality, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Conduct design reviews and resolve design-related issues.
  • Incorporate feedback from various stakeholders to refine and improve designs.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest SolidWorks tools and techniques.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and practices in shipbuilding.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of design experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting unmanned crafts or autonomy programs.
  • AutoCAD and 3D modeling using Ship Constructor, Nupas Cadmatic, Inventor, and CATIA software (Must).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks software.
  • Strong understanding of ship structure, equipment, and systems design.
  • Experience with US Navy or government programs is desired.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to conduct design reviews and resolve design-related issues.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and regulations.

Skills:

  • Expertise in using SolidWorks for creating and modifying detailed design models and drawings.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with naval architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to optimize designs for efficiency, functionality, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in conducting design reviews and resolving design-related issues.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
