Automation Engineering Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
Our Client is seeking an Automation Engineering Manager to join our team in the energy, mining, industrial power markets, and Integrated bio-energy solutions. This individual must have the desire to perform quality work safely, be detail-oriented, and have superior customer focus. This individual must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overseeing the development, programming and implementation of automated systems in the Oil and Gas industry.
Responsible for designing, building, testing, and implementing automated systems.
Ability to work closely with engineers and other technical professionals.
Develop and maintain detailed schedules for automation activities.
Coordinating project schedules and plans with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Providing status updates to internal leadership and client team.
Managing the resources responsible for configuration and testing of the software components.
Developing and maintaining automation software standards.
Gathering business requirements, performing feasibility studies, and prototyping solutions.
Assisting with the creation of automation prototypes.
Responsible for all Traditional Energy Systems group work and subcontracted work critical to the overall company objectives. This includes management of efforts in PLC programming, HMI programming, Line Control, electrical device layout, startup services, data collection services and process control services. This also includes work assignments, available project hours, component specifications, project schedules, and available resources.
Determine whether outside resources (sub-contracted labor) or additional staff members are necessary and contracts/hires if needed.
Provide person-hour estimates, component estimates, and construction estimates to the Business Development/ Marketing Department for work proposals.
Serve as part of the Senior Management Committee and participate with the Directors and Presidents in the formation of corporate policy, personnel decisions, and business development activities.
Responsible for the Traditional Energy systems engineering project costs, person-hours, and technical content.
Provide training opportunities for subordinates to continually educate and improve the departments’ knowledge and to uphold the electrical codes/regulations in designs.
Conduct annual reviews of subordinates.
Conduct activities safely and prudently and work according to established safety and company requirements.
Travel domestically and internationally ranges from 5-20% per year.
Must comply with company core values for the safe and efficient operation of the business and maintain sound relationships with employees.
Must be a leader who represents the organization with the ability to be a liaison to our customers, adhere to company contracts, and resolve issues with urgency and professionalism.
This position will be responsible for interviewing, selecting, and training all new employees to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to perform their duties to the standard of the organization. This position will also be responsible for developing the team and providing feedback for annual performance evaluations.
Responsible for the escalation of employee issues and company violations to ensure the employee understands the policies and procedures of the organization. This position will create and deliver all employee disciplines with the support of Human Resources.
Performs all work in compliance with company standards, does not deviate from policies and procedures, and adheres to regulatory requirements.
This position will be the point of contact for the team and will respond timely to troubleshoot issues and avoid prolonged delays. Must be able to troubleshoot issues with complete resolution.
Identify all safety situations and report issues timely.
Promote a positive working environment to achieve the organization’s goals.
Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create, modify, and debug PLC, HMI, & Data Management software code.
Serve as a resource for the installation and start-up of the assignment.
Perform functional checkout procedures on assembled projects.
Assist Electrical / Systems Engineers in design and programming efforts as required.
Provide onsite assistance in functional checkout and/or troubleshooting as required.
Promote a positive working environment to achieve the organization’s goals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field of study is required.
Seven (7) to Ten (10) years of experience in electrical design, engineering, or a related field is required.
A strong understanding of electrical design is required.
Experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems - Rockwell Control Logix, Fisher Roc, ABB Total Flow, and Omni Flow Computers is required.
On-site field installation and start-up experience of control/automation systems is required.
Basic understanding of AutoCAD preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
Required to possess a valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
