Automation Engineer - Position and Responsibilities
As an Automation Engineer, you will work with other disciplines and clients throughout the United States to specify, design and program industrial Control Systems. These Control systems include continuous and batched processes. Travel is expected to be 20% for commissioning and field investigation at client facilities within the United States. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

The successful candidate will possess the following:
As an Automation Engineer, you will work with other disciplines and clients throughout the United States to specify, design and program industrial Control Systems. These Control systems include continuous and batched processes. Travel is expected to be 20% for commissioning and field investigation at client facilities within the United States. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Understand P&ID’s with ability to modify and improve P&ID’s.
- Generate I/O and instrument lists.
- Design and specify PLC/DCS Control panels, including I/O, terminals, power supplies and other control system equipment.
- Generate Control System Functional specification for the design of industrial controls.
- Program PLC and or DCS.
- Program HMI’s and SCADA systems such as Aveva (Schneider Electric) Wonderware and GE iFix.
- Setup servers, desktops, and thin clients for the SCADA system.
- Understand and use industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus, Devicenet, Profibus, DNP etc.
- Use substation equipment such as RTUs, Schweitzer Relays and RTAC is preferred.
- Develop technical specifications and data sheets, perform technical evaluation of bids, and recommend best value design to meet client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety of Industrial Control system.
- Check installations and complete problem-solving activities around field work.
- Interact with other departments to coordinate the design deliverables.
- Interact with suppliers to obtain pertinent information finalizing Instrument data sheet and calculations.
Education, Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
- 2+ years of automation engineering experience required.
- PLC/DCS Programming experience
- SCADA/HMI Programming experience.
- Control Panel design experience
- Ability to perform flow design calculations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to multi-task and be highly organized.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
