Structural Steel Designer

Our client is a progressive well-run company, with excellent customer relationships and Utility specific sustainable technology solutions. It has developed a business strategy encompassing market growth through a variety of channels, including expanded international sales coverage. The Company has strong sales channels in North America, and currently possesses emerging sales channels in EMEA and Asia-Pacific (AP).

Under supervision, the Designer plans, organizes, and controls physical design sketches, drawings, material releases and other documents from pre-contract Sales support through customer acceptance of deliverables to achieve quality, schedule and cost commitments, as well as targeted contract profitability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Designer will:

  • Prepare and review all assigned design work for contracts and proposals as directed by the Physical Design Supervisor or Senior Designer within schedule, budget, and quality guidelines.
  • Plan, organize and participate in the planning of all design assignments for contracts and proposals.
  • Designs conform to UCC technical guidelines, contract requirements and quality requirements for assigned contracts and proposal work. Conduct special assignments as requested by the Physical Design Manager and/or Supervisor.
  • Demonstrates growth in knowledge and understanding of UCC policies, equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable design codes such as AISC, AWS, and OSHA preferred.
  • Displays positive attitude and learning characteristics, ability to complete assignments in accordance with schedule requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Architecture, or comparable experience.
  • Technical background with 3-5 years Design Drafting Experience using AutoCAD/Autodesk software.

Characteristics and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Mechanical and analytical aptitude
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient in CAD (Autodesk products preferred).
  • Basic understanding of contractual language
  • Must be willing to travel 15% of the time to various plant sites.
